Mysteriously projected into a medieval past, a 21st century boy, Alex, searches for his long missing parents back in the time of William Wallace.

Alex had suspected that clues to his parents' whereabouts would be found in hidden caves deep below the ruined Duncragglin castle, but instead found a mysterious chamber that propelled him and friends into the past. His friends had long since left to return to the present, but Alex stayed behind, continuing his search for his parents while struggling to survive in a turbulent time.

Setting out across war-torn Scotland as a produce merchant's helper, Alex encounters four brutal agents of the English who are out to thwart Wallace’s plans, and he becomes part of history in ways he never imagined.

Meanwhile, after her return from the past, his friend Annie tries to find out what has happened to him. She meets with an archeology professor, visits the boy's aunt and consults ancient chronicles. Then, discovering he faces a fate worse than death, she sets out with her brothers and a friend to rescue him.

The rest, as they say, is history.
